The "Avenue of the Heroes" runs east from the column to the Jiu River. The ensemble consisting of "Column of the Infinite" or "Endless Column", "Gate of the Kiss", and "Table of Silence" was created by Brâncuşi during 1935-1938 in honor of the Gorj heroes who died in the Great War 1916-1918. Just about halfway between the column and the river is the domed Holy Apostles Peter and Paul Church.
